The Emergence of Modern Police in Ethiopia
Various historical records indicate that organizing a modern police institution and introducing its services in our country dates back many years. Ethiopia's modern police force was formally established by proclamation starting from Tir 23, 1934 E.C. (1942 G.C.).
Over time, Ethiopia's police organization has been known by different names such as Arada Guards, City Guards, and Wardia. Historical accounts show that until 1948 E.C., the police had a paramilitary structure. In urban areas, they utilized available technology including cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, while in rural areas, they relied on horses, mules, and camels to perform their duties.
🏛️ ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF SIDAMA POLICE
History tells us that following the fall of the Derg regime, Sidama Police began providing services under the Transitional Government starting from Sene 14, 1984 E.C. Following the ratification of the FDRE Constitution in 1987 E.C., within the structure of the former Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region government, the Sidama Zone Administrative Police Department was established by law.
Under this structure, operating under the name Sidama Zone Police Department, it worked in coordination with security forces at various levels to fulfill its role of protecting the peace and security of the people.
📌 KEY EVENT: Following the positive response from the reform government to the Sidama people's request for regional organization, a referendum was held on Hidar 10, 2012 E.C. resulting in the establishment of the 10th Region. Subsequently, the former zonal structure was transformed, and through Proclamation No. 7/2012 E.C., the Sidama Region Police Commission was formally established.

ስለ ሲዳማ ክልል
ሲዳማ ክልል በደቡብ ኢትዮጵያ የሚገኝ ሲሆን በሕዳር 10/2012 ዓ.ም (ኖቬምበር 20, 2019 እ.ኤ.አ) በተካሄደ ሕዝበ ውሳኔ መሠረት የኢትዮጵያ 10ኛ ክልል ሆኖ ተቋቋመ። ክልሉ በሀገሪቱ ከሚገኙ ልዩ የአየር ንብረት እና የተፈጥሮ ሀብት ባለፀጋ አካባቢዎች አንዱ ነው።
ከላይ በሥዕሉ ላይ እንደሚታየው የሲዳማ ክልል በአራት ዋና ዋና የአግሮኢኮሎጂካል ዞኖች የተከፋፈለ ነው። እነዚህም፦ ቆላ፣ ወይና ደጋ፣ ደጋ እና ዉርጭ ይባላሉ። ይህ ክፍፍል ከባህር ወለል በላይ ባለው ከፍታ፣ በአየር ንብረት እና በእርሻ ሥርዓት ላይ የተመሠረተ ነው።
ክልሉ በቡና፣ በእንሰት፣ በበቆሎ፣ በገብስ፣ በስንዴና በሌሎች የእህል ዓይነቶች የታወቀ ነው። በተለይም የሲዳማ ቡና በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ በልዩ ጣዕም የሚታወቅ ነው።
